Hewlett-Packard’s Computer Tablet

Hewlett-Packard is known for its state of the art technology and now they are proud to launch their
new computer tablet. The company has a history of manufacturing portable touch devices which is
under the Jornada line. After they acquired Compaq, HP stopped manufacturing the Jornada line of
Microsoft Windows and started developing and marketing Pocket PCs under the iPAQ line. Currently,
HP is manufacturing the company’s TouchSmart series of Tablet PCs, laptops and touchscreen all-in-one
desktop computers.

Set to take advantage the on-going hype for the Apple iPad, the HP Slate was introduced at the 2010
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by Steve Ballmer. According to him the Slate is almost as
portable as a phone, and as powerful as a PC running Windows 7. This multi-touch device began as an E-
Reader concept but after doing some research on the consumer’s use of devices the company found out
that users wanted something light and thin. This device should be capable of delivering everything that
the user needs like browsing, downloading, watching videos and enjoy other applications.

  HP Slate

This hot new tablet is set to steal the Apple’s thunder and be the first one to be out in the market that
is capable of providing users variety of options. It features an 8.9” capacitive multi-touch screen that
supports 1024×600 pixel resolution that comes with digitizer and pen support, a 3 megapixel camera
located at the back panel and a VGA resolution web cam on the front panel. Powered by a 1.86 GHz Intel
Atom Z540 processor, the HP Slate also comes with 1GB DDR2 of non-user upgradable RAM and 4GB of
onboard solid state flash storage that comes with one standard USB 2.0 port.

Powered by Intel GMA 500, the Slate’s hardware can support 1080p playback with its integrated
graphics chipset in addition to a Broadcom Crystal HD media accelerator card for hardware assisted
video playback. With the use of SD cards the tablet’s memory can be expanded and it comes with a
built-in WIFI supporting 802.11 b/g/n standards and supported by HP Wireless Broadband 3G. The
tablet’s power is supplied by its state of the art 2-cell 30WHr Lithium-Ion battery that has a runtime
average of 5 hours.

The HP Slate will run Windows 7 and it comes with loads of built-in support for digital pen computing.
With the use of its stylus pen/digitizer, users can now take advantage its on-screen freehand drawing
and writing. Handwriting recognition and pen-based interaction with the user interface are also
included. A “full web” experience has been confirmed both by Adobe Systems and HP, and that includes
full hardware accelerated Adobe Flash content and Adobe AIR applications.

2010 will be a big year for tablet computers and HP is all geared up for its new tablet proving users the
world that they are up for the challenge. The Slate will surely prove that switching to tablet PC is better
than sticking to netbooks or notebooks. With its reasonable prize and amazing features the HP Slate will
be a big hit.

When in the market for a new computer, you naturally want the find the best desktop PC deals . Why pay more when you can avoid it? But it’s important ...

When in the market for a new computer, you naturally want the find the best desktop PC deals . Why pay more when you can avoid it? But it’s important to remember that the best desktop PC deals aren’t always the cheapest.

You’ll save money in the long run if you first figure out exactly what you need. Are you a gaming enthusiast? If so, you’ll need a processor that’s faster than one in a computer that will be used for surfing, shopping or word processing.

What about the brand of computer? There are many different competitors on the market and you may find that, for your requirements, all of them are pretty much the same.

  ASK AROUND…ONLINE REVIEWS:
Check around and see what other people say about them . You can find reviews online as well as asking your friends, family members and associates about their experiences. Remember that while one brand might be practically identical to another, it may have a much better warranty or tech support that is worth paying a little more for.

Most problems with a new computer will happen in the first year that you have it . If you deal directly with a salesperson in a brick and mortar store they will undoubtedly try to sell you an additional warranty for two or three years. That’s going to add another $150-$200 to the price of your computer and chances are good that you won’t need such an extended warranty.

In fact, getting the best desktop PC deals can be pretty difficult if you’re dealing with a hard-working sales staff. Many of them work on a small base salary plus commission and they want to sell you the most expensive package they can talk you into. This is why it’s so important to know exactly what you want and need; write it down so you’ll have the list in the store with you and stick to it.

  Extended Warranty:
Although you may not want an extended warranty you will want to find out what type of technical support is available for a computer you’re considering. Many people buy a computer with a good warranty at a good price but once they need technical support they find themselves on hold for up to an hour, even if they have a simple question.

Worse, once the call is answered they may find themselves speaking with someone thousands of miles away with only a rudimentary understanding of English. Skills and knowledge are useless without a coherent way of sharing them!

  Keyboards:
If your computer will be used for business in a home office you’ll be doing a lot of typing or data input. This means that you’ll want a keyboard that it as comfortable as possible and also ergonomic. Ergonomic keyboards might add to the cost of your computer but will probably help you avoid the pain and expense of carpal tunnel syndrome.

If you won’t be doing a lot of input you can save money by avoiding gimmicky keyboards. There are keyboards that light up with your favorite color, ones that are heated, keyboards with no letters on the keys, silent keyboards and a host of other unique and unusual keyboards. Choosing one of these will only add to the cost of your computer and the benefits are negligible. A simple standard keyboard will be sufficient for most purposes.

You may, however, want to spring for a wireless keyboard and mouse . While such a set costs a bit more than their tethered cousins, the convenience is well worth it. You won’t suddenly run out of cord when moving your mouse around and cleaning the keyboard is as simple as stepping away from the sensor and giving it a quick dusting or a blast of canned air. If you opt for wireless peripherals, be sure to maintain a supply of batteries!

  Smart Phone Options :
Once you’ve done your homework on what you need and the brands available you can check out some money saving options. If you have a Smart Phone, look around for a free app (application) that you can download that alerts you when a good deal comes on the market. There are also websites that will email you when prices change, when there is a sale at your preferred store or notify you when there is a coupon available. These notifications can be set to land in your email inbox or come directly to your phone in the form of a text.

  Coupons:
Speaking of coupons, there are many websites that scour the internet and list the coupon codes and printable coupons that they find. Some of these can save you up to $100 or more on the purchase of a brand new desktop computer. You’ll also find coupons of all sorts for peripherals and software that you will need.

  Newspaper & Sales Circulars:
Don’t forget to check out newspaper circulars, internet advertising and other ways that stores draw in customers. Sign up for newsletters offered by local computer stores that are sent to your mailbox. You never know when that simple sign-up will save you big bucks!

  Rebates:
Another way to get great desktop PC deals is to find out about rebates. Yes, they are a lot of trouble but once you send in the required documentation you’ll recoup some of your money. Some companies offer free merchandise like software or coupons that will save money on something else you’d like to have for your computer.

  Refurbished Computers:
You may also want to consider a refurbished computer. These are computers that have been wiped completely clean and restored to like-new working order. You can sometimes save a couple of hundred dollars on such a computer but it will have a limited warranty. Many major computer manufacturers offer refurbished computers; you can buy them online or at an electronics store.

It’s important to remember that while you get the quality you pay for, you can also be overcharged for a mediocre computer. Shopping around, taking advantage of coupon codes and having a well defined list of the features you need and want will insure that you get the best desktop PC deals possible.

You can find coupons and specials for desktop PCs and save a substantial amount on your purchase if you know where to look. Nobody, not even the wealthy, wants to pay more than they have to especially for bigger ticket items like a desktop PC. Your PC is your lifeline—to your business, your friends, your family and perhaps even your education—and you want to be sure that you get exactly what you want and need at a good price. This is where coupons and specials for desktop PCs come in. But where do you find these deals?

It’s fairly simple to find coupons and specials for desktop PCs. Open the search engine of your choice and enter your search terms such as “computer coupon code” or “computer deals”. There are many, many websites that have valid coupon codes you can use when ordering online. Just copy the code then look for the place on the order form to enter it. It will usually be where the payment options are listed.

You may get an error when you use a coupon code but don’t be discouraged. Some are time sensitive; it’s a good idea to gather several codes and have them handy so that you can have a substitute if one of them is rejected as expired.

Printable coupons for desktop PCs are out there on the web, too. You can find them on manufacturer’s websites and on the sites of magazines like PC World and other niche publications.

There are also websites dedicated to computer reviews. Many of them work with computer manufacturers and offer coupon codes as an incentive to get readers to buy after they read a review. These codes range from 20% or more off to up to $200 off a desktop computer.

Coupon codes and printable coupons may give you a percentage off the price or a definite amount. You may find one for free shipping or for free peripherals like keyboards, a mouse or a web camera. Occasionally a manufacturer will allow you to use more than one coupon so collect as many as you can to drive down the price of your desktop PC and any extras that you want or need!

Believe it or not, one of the best places to find coupons and specials for desktop PCs is a manufacturer’s website. This is especially true in today’s poor economy. Companies are looking for new ways to attract business and have found that people who normally would not buy a new computer will do so if the company offers a printable coupon or a coupon code.

You can also save money by shopping online at office supply stores. Since these stores sell a lot of items in bulk they can afford to offer special deals. Staples, for example, offers free shipping on orders totaling more than $50 and their computers are often priced less than their competitors’. Buying from a retailer that does a lot of bulk sales will save you money above and beyond what coupons and codes will allow you.

One of the best ways to insure that you get a good deal on a desktop PC is to compare features, prices and most of all, reputation. A $300 desktop PC is no bargain if you can’t get technical support in a timely manner or if it begins to give your problems soon after you buy it. By all means, compare features and prices but look for customer reviews and see which manufacturers have the most satisfied customers. Price is important but buying a good quality product will save you more money down the road.

Another way to get the best deal on a desktop PC is to make your purchase at the time of year when manufacturers have to lowest prices. All goods have cycles; times of the year when manufacturers need to clear out older models and release their new ones. This is true for desktop PCs, linens, children’s toys and just about everything else for sale on the market today.

The best times to buy a desktop PC are generally August, December and January. August is when all the back to school sales are held and computer manufacturers will have special promotions. Combined with a coupon or a coupon code, you could get a better deal than you expected. Back to school sales often offer free or discounted software and peripherals, too, so you could conceivably get a “luxury” package for the price of a basic desktop PC.

December is also a great time to buy a desktop PC. You can take advantage of holiday sales and end of the year blowout specials. The desktop PC you’ve decided on could be at a rock bottom price and combined with a printed coupon or coupon code, you could even get it below wholesale!

January is also a great time to get coupons and specials for desktop PCs. The annual International Consumer Electronics Show happens in January; all the new models are displayed at the exhibition and you’ll notice that the previous years’ models are marked down at brick and mortar stores as well as online. If you’ve done your research and obtained some coupons or coupon codes leading up to the Consumer Electronics Show you can get some great bargains as last year’s models are unloaded to make room for the new ones.

You don’t have to pay full price for a desktop PC. You can get exactly the features and peripherals you’re looking for if you take the time to shop around and combine your purchase with printable coupons or coupon codes. You can get dollars or a percentage off, free shipping and software or a brand new model at a bargain price because the new models are flooding the market. Timing, research and searching for coupons and specials for desktop PCs will insure that you get the best deal on the desktop PC of your choice.

You can find PC sales pretty much all year, although some months are better than others. Checking the sales before buying a computer can save you hundreds of dollars and even snag you some free software or peripherals.

One of the most convenient tools you use in searching for PC sales is a sales notification widget. There are many online stores and price comparison sites that offer these notifications at no charge to you. Quite often, you’ll even be given an additional discount just for purchasing your PC using the widget. They are quite simple to use; after you download the application and install it you just insert the parameters you are looking for. List the brands you would consider, the price you want to pay and the extras you need. The notification software will send you an email any time your requirements are met or your price range is hit.

In the meantime, look around the internet for printable coupons or coupon codes so that when you do find a PC at the right price you’ll be able to save even more.

Timing your purchase for a sale will save a lot of money. You can generally get some of the best prices in August during the back to school sales, in December during the run-up to Christmas and in January when the new models come on the market. There are other sales, of course, but these times of year are the big ones. You’ll find some of the best sales just before the new models come out, shortly after the Consumer Electronics Show in early January.

Black Friday has traditionally been the best time to PC sales but in recent years the deals haven’t been as good. While it’s true that Black Friday signals the start of the Christmas and holiday shopping season, recent economic downturns have stifled those sales somewhat. Prices can vary from city to city depending on the local economy. If you live in a smaller city, your electronics store may not have as good a sale as that in a nearby, larger city. It pays to look at circulars within fifty miles of your location to compare sale prices—you may save more by driving a few miles!

If you’re shopping online, look for stores that offer free shipping as many of them do. Combined with a good sale and a coupon code, you could save more than you expected.

Another good time to find sales is at the end of the fiscal quarter or year. The larger electronics outlets need to show a profit to satisfy their shareholders and often sacrifice up to 23% of their profit to show good numbers. Therefore, shopping around near the end of March, June, September and December might net you some really good deals.

Another place to look for PC sales is online overstock outlets. A computer model that isn’t wildly popular might be just what you are looking for but one that the manufacturer can’t unload. They commission overstock stores to offload that inventory, often at substantial discounts for consumers. It may not be the latest model but if it has everything you need at a great price you’ll come out ahead. If you find an online coupon code you could save even more.

Finding great PC sales isn’t so much a matter of timing as thinking creatively and taking advantage of coupon codes, excess stock and knowing exactly what you need in a PC.

Smartphones have essentially become portable, personal computers. You can email, text, browse, make and receive calls, take pictures, record, play music and more. You can even connect a Bluetooth keyboard and turn it into a word processor. However, it’s tough to make a decision with all the Smartphones on the market, especially because they keep changing and adding attractive features. They can be very hard to keep up with!

Paying attention to the basics will insure that you get the Smartphone that’s best for you. The three basics you must consider when choosing a Smartphone are the operating system (OS), the carrier and the hardware.

When looking at the operating system on a phone you’re considering, you may want to choose something familiar or go with something new. There are two basic types of OS on Smartphones, the Windows OS and the Mac OS.

If you have worked with Windows most of your computing life you’ll appreciate that type of OS. It’s very comfortable and looks and feels much like Windows XP. The interface was, of course, designed for a large screen and until recently it was difficult to manage the start menu and system tray, which was very tiny on smaller phones. Recent innovations and developments have largely solved such problems. You can sync your phone to your home computer or laptop, too. Samsung is one brand of Smartphone that uses the Windows operating system.

There are other Smartphones that use the Macintosh operating system, like the RIM BlackBerry. This phone used to be the market leader and still maintains high rankings. When it introduced the Pearl RIM in 2006 it became slimmer and more stylish without sacrificing function. The BlackBerry used to use the Windows OS only but now has developed features like PocketMac so that you can sync it with your desktop or laptop Mac. The iPhone by Apple is a good example of a Smartphone that uses the Mac OS, with the Safari web browser and mail application.

Once you decide on the operating system that’s best for you-or most familiar-you should consider your carrier. AT&T used to be the market leader but as other companies have improved their infrastructure and plans it now has some stiff competition. T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon are all giving AT&T a run for their money.

Sprint is very popular with younger people who don’t use their phones for executive functions; the unlimited texting feature seems to sell the plan for many users. Its 3G network is fast but it’s the consistency of the service that wins most people over. Although it doesn’t have a large selection of Smartphones, it does have the BlackBerry Tour and the HTC Hero.

Verizon Wireless has one thing going for it—its network. It has excellent coverage, both data and voice. Because of that it is a favorite of business people that need reliability and the minimum of dropped calls plus good voice quality. Verizon has also improved its selection of Smartphones, now offering the DROID, the iPhone and the Palm Pre Plus.

If you absolutely have your heart set on an iPhone then AT&T is one of two choices you have. It also has the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the HTC Tilt 2, Android and more. AT&T claims to have the fastest 3G speeds but it varies depending on where you are physically located. If you’re in a big metropolis such as New York you’ll have to put up with dropped calls and delays in texts and other data connections. However, AT&T is working hard to improve these drawbacks.

Hardware is the third consideration when SmartPhone shopping. For instance, if you’re using the phone for business you’ll have much different needs than if you’re using it strictly for personal reasons. Students, for example, want a good camera and video setup, a way to play music and the ability to watch movies or their favorite television shows. Business users want security, speed and reliability. Contractors want the best camera that’s available and perhaps some basic accounting software that they can use on the fly as they give estimates or check out job sites.

Software applications are also important although not one of the main things you should consider when choosing the best SmartPhone for your purposes. The iPhone, for example, has literally thousands of applications to download and many of them are free. You can download apps to help you find sales, new music, play jokes on your friends or help you run your business better.

The iPhone isn’t the only phone with applications, though. The Droid is catching up fast, with apps offered by developers as well as users. Springboard, for example, is a note-jotting program that replaces sticky notes or pen and paper; it’s much more convenient for taking notes on the go, in a meeting or in class. There is an app that keeps track of your favorite bands, one that manages your travel and itinerary, even one that helps you find a taxi!

BlackBerry also has an app store where users can download apps for free or starting at 99¢. There are apps that show you amenities and points of interest in your own city or when you’re traveling. There are apps that tell you what’s playing in local theaters, keep you up to date on news around the word, stream radio stations, help you with your “to do” list, road safety applications and many more.

Smartphones have become a nearly indispensible part of many peoples’ lives—they conduct business on them, entertain themselves with them, keep up with friends and family and use them to manage their lives. Choosing the right SmartPhone for your needs will make your life much easier and more enjoyable.

What Is A Dual Screen Tablet Notebook?

A dual screen tablet notebook is a foldout, portable computer. It has two screens, which fold out the way a book of a journal would. The two screens allow for users to view a textbook on of the screens, and to use the other side as a notebook, for writing.

Currently, there’s not many on the market. One has currently been release, the Entourage Edge, Microsoft’s Courier seems to have been discarded, and then there’s the ‘Kno’, which has a lot of promise.

In the tablet market, most of the products are single screen tablets, which is led by market leader Apple with its iPad range and Samsung’s Galaxy. Both single screen tablets and dual screen tablets are new technology on the market, and the potential for growth in the area is high.

First, laptops took over from desktops. It is becoming possible that the next step in the evolution of computers is the tablet. Whether or not it will be dual or single screen remains to be seen.

Who Makes The Dual Screen Tablets?

Not many companies are planning on making a dual screen tablet, with many preferring to stay with the single screen model. Microsoft attempted and then scrapped its ‘Courier’ project, an unknown company named ‘Kno’ is releasing what it claims to be the most powerful tablet device yet, and the first released dual screen tablet Entourage Edge shows promise.

  The Microsoft Courier

Previously, Microsoft had a project in development it named ‘Courier’. This was a dual screen tablet notebook, with an emphasis on drawing and writing as its main input, over a touch screen keyboard and mouse. Microsoft did release some information on the project, and some other information has been leaked on to the net over time. The work looked promising, and it would have possibly dealt a blow to Apple’s iPad had it seen the light of day. Microsoft shelved the project, and does not plan to release the ‘Courier’. In October, however, Microsoft was hoping to be able to get a patent on a ‘dual screen device’, which leaves the door open as to what they will decide.

The ‘Kno’

A company that not many people have heard of are quite possibly leading the way in the dual screen tablet field. ‘Kno’ are unheard of by just about anyone. That may be changing soon, if their tablet takes off. The ‘Kno’ is aimed at University and College students. One side is used as a textbook, and the other side as a notebook. The ‘Kno’ will give its users the ability to download any textbook they require, without having to go to a library or carry around thousands of handwritten notes.

One side of the tablet works like a Kindle, and the other side similar to the iPad. The main difference is, it’s the two products together. It has a touch screen, which can also be written on using a pen stylus. The pen stylus allows users to write in their information just as they would a book. The screen will be good quality, so video and clips won’t suffer. The ‘Kno’ will be completely portable.

‘Kno’, according to its makers will be the most power tablet built so far. This is a bold claim, and going against the likes of Apple with its iPad is a big risk. Many people out there will remain with the iPad, no matter how good the ‘Kno’ is compared to the iPad. Apple seem to have a cult following that is almost impossible to penetrate for other companies.

The makers of the ‘Kno’ have promised that the dual screen tablet will be under $1000, however many in the industry question this estimate. For a product with as many features as it has, getting it to under $1000 will be a challenge.

  The Entourage Edge

The Entourage Edge is possibly a product dead in the water. Like the ‘Kno’, the Edge has two screen, an ‘e-ink screen’ and a ‘pen on paper’ screen. Like the ‘Kno’, this sounds like a good idea. Especially for college students as it give them easier access to textbooks and their notebooks. The Edge, however, fails to provide much for the promise it had.

Working on an Android 1.6 operating system, the tablet is 10.1 inches. Currently, this is the only dual screen tablet on the market. This doesn’t mean the product is selling though, or that there’s any demand for it. Being a heavy device is a downfall. So is the hardware inside, which doesn’t work as smoothly as users would hope. Made of a flimsy plastic, the Edge seems more like a disposable toy than a serious hardware device.

The ‘Kno’ is aiming to be under $1000, while the Entourage Edge is priced at $499.99. Many are saying that the Edge is overpriced at $499.99, so the ‘Kno’ looks like it may have priced itself out of most people’s price ranges. Especially the students it’s aiming to gain as customers.

Should I Get A Dual Screen Tablet, Would It Make Life Easier?

Dual Screen Tablets do seem like fun, and a good idea. If you’re a college or a university student, high school student, or even a college lecture a dual screen tablet is something that would come in handy. Textbooks and notebooks already there no need to carry around too many textbooks, an end to messy notebook pages your entire course, right at your fingertips. The writing side is very handy, especially with the ‘Kno’, which is a breeze to write using.

If you’re on a budget, or looking at changing your laptop or desktop to a tablet, it’s possibly a better move to go for something like the iPad, at least until more dual screen tablets are on the market. The Entourage Edge isn’t that great for it’s promise, and the ‘Kno’ is set to be priced extremely high, quite possibly pricing it’s target users out of the price range.
